Free Online Classroom: OpenCL 101

Want to understand the basics of OpenCL and ask any question you want? We got you covered. In two hours we’ll get you up-and-running with the basics of OpenCL and have your questions answered.

The classroom will be held online via a virtual classroom (WebRTC-based in Firefox and Chrome or Flash in other browsers).

Time

We’re focusing on UTC-5 to UTC+2 (Europe and the East-Americas) with this class. Ofcourse you’re very welcome to join with strong coffee or living the 24-hour economy to the fullest.

After this class we’re planning a morning-session for access from Europe, Africa and Asia during office hours. After that there will be a session for the full Americas from Alaska (UTC-9) to Brazil (UTC-3).

  • By example: Getting started with OpenCL (30 minutes)
  • By example: Porting a simple program to OpenCL (30 minutes)
  • Q&A in parallel (30 minutes). Ask us any question, for instance:
    • General OpenCL.
    • OpenCL on GPUs.
    • OpenCL on FPGAs.
    • What algorithms work well with GPUs, CPUs and FPGAs.
    • StreamHPC services.
  • The next steps (5 minutes).
  • Closing words (5 minutes).

The total time is 2 hours.

Targeted audience and requirements

People who are curious what OpenCL can do and/or how StreamHPC can help. Engineers, technical managers and R&D managers in Europe and the Americas.

You need to have fast internet for the virtual classroom.

Extra: Labs

After the class you can do a small lab session. These lab-sessions can be done on your own machine or on StreamHPC’s servers (Linux command line). If you choose to use your own machine, OpenCL needs to be supported and installed.

If you like to do another exercise after the 101, you’re invited to join an OpenCL 102 class.
